Beauty and Brutality

Did anyone else watch tonight's 60 Minutes piece on brothers/
matadors Francisco and Cayetano Ordoñez? Oh. My. God.

Bullfighting is barbaric, cruel and archaic. But then there are matadors. I was on the edge of my seat and didn't blink once. I'm reminded that Spain is not perfection but it has some eye candy that is perfect. I want to go back and never return.

I saw 2 seconds of it - then the family voted 60 minutes off in lieu of billy bragg on the stereo.... all I caught was the 60 minute report introducing the story about spain's 'two most eligible bachelors'.....sounds as if you are thowing your hat in the ring for one of them!

in college when I visited my brother who at the time was living near the texas-mexico border, he took me to a bullfight - I lasted all of 5 seconds before breaking into tears and running out with instructions that they could find me wandering about when they were full of the barbarism!

Salty - Muy guapo, los dos.

Mouse - I'll throw my hat or horns in the bull ring.

I too blogged about this. Están guapos los cabrones, pero no estoy de acuerdo con la tradición.

Oh yeah. Spain is indeed the land of eye candy.

WAT - Just caught your post. I agree with you about the cruelty to the bulls, but when I saw Cayetano rushed to the hospital I almost cried to see that lovely creature injured.

Steve - When it comes to Francisco and Cayetano, they are candy for more than just the eyes.

I always thought these guys deserved to be gored in this 'sport'. Not a big fan of that whole silliness but am a big fan of the costumes the matadors wear. There is quite a bit more I'd like to share on this but I'd just end up going on and on like I did about the stewardess uniform on Gina Gershon (and you KNOW what that did to me).

Gary - I agree that Gina Gershon in her stewardess (not to be confused with flight attendant) uniform was fetching, but seeing a matador I just get...well, this is a family-oriented blog so I'll restrain myself.

But, yes, I agree that the treatment of the bulls is horrid. At what value is there in the matador's having a potential date with death? Pointless, but those costumes are amazing.
