1988: Nina Hagen Presents Tomorrow's Hits Today
So many memories tied up with this one. Recorded in Toronto I think, in between Tegucigalpa and Ouagadougou. Move to Africa? Marry and settle in Toronto? Take that job in San Pedro Sula? Join Edelweiss as a bearded bandoneon player? Edelweiss!?!?!? They had that huge hit "Don't Bring Me Edelweiss". And what was their other hit? Oh, yes, "Don't Bring Me Edelweiss".
Labels: Canada, Germany, Nina Hagen, Toronto

Gosh, that takes me back. In 1988 I had just gone to Baton Rouge to start college, and moved into a spooky, crumbling wreck of a plantation home by the Mississippi river with two high school friends. The place was huge but we rented it dirt cheap because it was literally falling down around us. It was like something out of Faulkner. The day we moved in we got drunk and danced to "Edelweiss" on the second-floor balcony all night. Looking back I'm amazed the whole thing didn't collapse out from under us.
Ah, good times. Thanks for reminding me.
Dave - When I read "spooky, crumbling wreck of a plantation home by the Mississippi" I knew the name Faulkner was coming up in the next line. Who'd have guess Edelweiss would have people dancing on the Mississippi?
