Speaking of Weimar
This version still holds up for me as I've been transferring my beloved 1976 LP to MP3, remembering when I saw it live and had a big crush on Raul Julia that went back to his Sesame Street and Two Gentlemen of Verona days. And in his hand, Nine wasn't that bad.
And speaking of Gisela May, here she is in 1981, eight years before the Berlin Wall fell in the DDR (a.k.a. East Germany) proving that the DDR wasn't all drab Stalinesque folk songs. At least her chorus boys were wearing red.
Labels: Brecht, Dreigroschenoper, Raul Julia, Weill, weimar

I love Brecht/Weil songs. Wasn't there a red, hot and collection done? Although I'm most familiar with the first Cole Porter one.
Susan - You are probably thinking of "Lost in the Stars" that featured several pop and jazz artists. There is also "September Song" that followed and was a PBS special too and featured some of the same artists.
I've always loved Raul Julia. Just a wonderful actor!
Erin - He seems to be forgotten these days. He left behind an incredibly diverse body of work.

Mouse - Sadly I've not been able to find a clip, but I clearly remember him doing some of the "commercials" for the letters E and O. He pronounced those vowels very clearly.
alas, no youtube vids of the late great raul on sesame street, but I did learn that he played a recurring role of rafael the fixit man on the 3rd season of ss.... which according to the muppet wiki was in 1971-1972 - these were years when I definitely was not watching sesame street (being a wild and crazy teen)my weakness for all things sesame began around 1981 when I began watching it with my toddler daughter....
here's the link to raul as rafael
