The Speech

Putting Barney Smith before Smith-Barney was a great line that may be remembered more than Obama's speech itself which had challenges with the physical dynamics and what came before it. Rhetoric or not, it was uplifting to at least hear coherent sentences and the right rhetoric. Perhaps I expected it to have more heart or echo more of "I have a dream". But simply acknowledging that speech, daring to speak about abortion and gay marriage, and the journey of the messenger were enough for me.

What will most resonate in the morning will likely be Pamella Cash-Roper. Get rid of that dreadful Dr. Phil and give this woman a show. She's a good reminder of why we must march forward and the types of people this election is all about. Her humor in the face of adversity will stick with me for some time.

I forgot to mention on my blog that these ordinary folk were among the best thing about the convention. They were very good and connected with the common people.

WAT - They are the backbone of the party and the country. I especially loved Pam. She was touching and funny. And I hope she stays healthy.

ditto ... with exception to the excitement of seeing obama accept the nomination; I thought the everyday folks speeches were the highlight of last night. especially loved the barney smith line too!!! pam's story broke my heart.... mccain's solution to the health care crises certainly will do nothing to help folks who find themselves in the same situation as pam and her husband....

Mouse - How touching Barney and Pam were and to know that their stories are not buried somewhere but shared with millions. Pam really deserves to be heard by more. She speaks with such passion.

At first I thought Obama's speech was a let down after the emotion involved with grasping that this was such a milestone for him to simply step onto the stage. There were no zingers on the order of "the power of our example instead of the example of our power". As it sunk in, I realized it was a chance for him to show specifics and substance instead of just being glitz and celebrity.
