The Pascal sacrifical lamb plus St. Sebastian -- how merciful that it was not a live lamb that would have immediately become limp dead meat: This one can go on dying for as long as the cloth and its insensate innards survive. Suffering should last a while or what is the meaning of sacrifice? I think a bit of blood would have enhanced the effect greatly, and I would be happy to bleed on it.
