Have We Lost Our Edge?

After months of hearing that San Francisco had the nation's highest gas prices while Tulsa, Okla., had its lowest, when I saw a post today about gas reaching the $5.00 mark in Redwood City I was sure San Francisco must be soaring at the five and a quarter mark. Oh, how European that would feel! So imagine my shock this afternoon to see this sign at the 24th and Valencia where I let Carlos play with my dipstick and fluids every three months or so.

Why don't they just give it away if we're going to be outpriced a full 40 cents by...Redwood City. Redwood City! Isn't that where we city slickers are supposed to go for bargains? Oh, the universe is truly out of whack. Cribs indeed!

(For those who track such things, this is post 1001 at Junk Thief as our two year anniversary rapidly approaches.)

Post 1,001? I do track such things, I do, and dammit, at almost three years bloggin, I am only on post 191. A mere piker, by comparison.

Redwood City suffers from being in the middle of nowhere (albeit a lovely corner of nowhere), which probably explains the gas prices. In fact, that entire part of the former State of Jefferson just kinda doesn't work, so twisty and turny are the roads.

Rich - Thanks, but quantity doesn't always equal quality.

Uh, I think you're confused on the location of Redwood City. It's south of San Francisco with tons of strip malls, El Camino and the 101 and 280. Just as there are more malls than walnut trees in Walnut Creek, Redwood City isn't exactly a haven of redwoods.
