Drunk Deaths Anniversaries
Just in case you think we have been implying that Chicago is the only place where great artists fall on drunken ruin, I point to this great post about the Centennial of the death of O. Henry. As our beloved Bowery Boys point out "He may even been drunk here" in the above image.

O. Henry was a drunkard? I had no idea. Maybe I should up my own consumption and create my own master works.
Gary - Well, that's what the Bowery Boys say, and I'd never question their authority. You have to admit O. Henry looks rather polluted in the at photo.
I remember hearing that he asked not to die in the dark. Sad. (he does look a bit tipsy in the pic)
Yes sad indeed and yes he looks tipsey!
Willow - I'd not heard that
Mmm - Sadly that's the mark of many a writer.
Ah, O Henry. We Central Ohioans love to claim him as one of our own as he spent a few years in the old Ohio Pen. Wrote "Gift of the Magi" there. I had heard that he liked to imbibe a bit. Still one amazing writer.
Erin - It does not diminish my admiration of O. Henry. Central Ohio has reason to be proud of him.
