Cats, Satan, Broadcasting

After that spooky visit from Jesus earlier this week, I feel compelled to promote a nifty local resource around the corner -- Pirate Cat Radio, with an online broadcast. While I don't always enjoy what they play, usually I do. I've been a big fan of KCRW in Santa Monica for a good many years, but sometimes even they get a bit to over programmed. I'm actually old enough to remember when there really was real college radio, and it sounded a lot like the kiddos over at Pirate Cat Radio.
Plus, I have to admire them for having their 600 Club and First Satanic Church.

So, if you can't visit me at the JunkPlex in the Mission, you can stream this little local resource through iTunes. The spaced out

I'll be streaming that! Oh and in the event this fell into your spam filter...

Dear Criterion Collection Newsletter subscriber,

We’ve got some exciting news for this fall, and we wanted you to hear it first.

Our first Blu-ray discs are coming! We’ve picked a little over a dozen titles from the collection for Blu-ray treatment, and we’ll begin rolling them out in October. These new editions will feature glorious high-definition picture and sound, all the supplemental content of the DVD releases, and they will be priced to match our standard-def editions.

Here’s what’s in the pipeline:

The Third Man
Bottle Rocket
Chungking Express
The Man Who Fell to Earth
The Last Emperor
El Norte
The 400 Blows
Gimme Shelter
The Complete Monterey Pop
Contempt
Walkabout
For All Mankind
The Wages of Fear

Thats a lot of remastering right there. Believe me A LOT of remastering.

Gavin - Blu-ray Criterion. Gosh, what will those cost, about $120 per single disc? What a wild mix. Wonder what will follow Blu-ray? Criterion brain chips?
