God, no kidding. I said this at greater length on ER's blog this morning, but...
Though Palin might energize the base of bigots and hysterics that are the Republican's bread and butter, what the Democrats need to not do is hope to steal a little o' that evangelical thunder. It never works, and it's pointless.
Fuck those people anyway: let them marginalize themselves. They always will.
Rich - Right on about Democrats not donning Bible thumping drag. It just doesn't work, even though Clinton (Bill)does give speeches that are heavily influenced by testimonial sermons.
One point that I've not heard discussed at all is the fact that neither of the two parties have Southerners in their bids for the White House. This is truly historic. There have been some references to the fact that both Republicans are "Westerners" (i.e., wild horses happiest roaming the corners of the Mojave, I guess). Let's just be thankful Obama was not forced to pick Edwards as his running mate in order to woo working class Red Staters. I shudder at the thought of his mistress being the Bristol Palin of Democratic ticket. Oy vey!
